Default Passenger legs and hips hurt

My wife's legs and hips hurt after long distances on our 2013 Street Glide. She is short - 5'. We have had the seat modified by Mean City Cycles so her but doesn't hurt at all. Her legs didn't hurt at all on our Honda before upgrading to a Harley. She sits very close to me on our current seat and we think having to hold her legs wider for longer periods of time is the cause of the discomfort. We are looking to add a detachable tour pak and bigger back rest to the bike in hopes of it moving her back some on the seat. Any suggestions or experience?

Perhaps she's not a Harley type Lady or she is and is inviting you to rub her legs and hips.

My wife is 5'4" and has bad hips so we suffered the same problem with her riding behind me. Solved the problem by putting her on her own bike. Went with the Iron 883 as the seat height worked and it was about as narrow as we could get. Now she doesn't suffer the hip pain. Something to consider.

Might look into the adjustable passenger footboards. H-D, Kury, RivCo has them. I think the RivCo has better adjustability, but others can chime in. These provide different leg positions for her.

Finding an inexpensive stock Ultra Classic/Limited seat would help. Sits up a little higher with more support than a Street Glide seat. Combined with the adjustable rear pegs/boards would be a nice set up for her.

Just my Wife's impression: Street Glide = bad; Road King = GOOD. This from a person that hos NO interest in motorcycles whatsoever except for two concerns: 1. Is it pretty (she doesn't like fairings), and.........2. Comfort. I wish I could be so simple.

Sorry, that wasn't very helpful.

My wife has had hip surgery and screws put in to her hips. The stock seat with an AirHawk was a little better for her over just the stock seat, but the biggest improvement was getting a take off saddle from an Ultra. No more complaints and she can walk with no complaints once off the bike.

Have a relative who had the same exact problem. Hip and leg pain sitting on the bike. With time it got worse and worse. They tried all kind of seats, cushions, pillows, etc. but none helped. Then chiropractors, therapies, yoga, etc. No help. Finally a qualified orthopedic specialist. Diagnosis was hip joint degeneration. Only one to fix that. She got hip replacements. Left then right. Problem solved for good. She can ride all day with no more pain. Sometimes there's just no work around.

I love both of my new hips, but that is a bit extreme.

This product has a great reputation and probably cheaper than the detachable tour pak and a new backrest.
