Default Drive sprocket wear?

Is this normal wear after 60k miles? Appears to be some kinda plating wearing off. I will be putting a new belt on. Just wonderin' if I need to replace sprocket. TIA

I would. My mechanic says that the pulleys wear out twice as fast as the belt.

Mine has looked like that since at least 60k. Has over 100k now still with the original belt. (I'm knocking on wood at the moment)

My pully has been peeling for the last 80,000 miles. I have 143,000 on the pully and belt. 06' Standard, 12 year old belt still rockin along. Also still running the original clutch plates, despite the high number of city miles that have been riden.
Now I see the pic of the pully, I'd say yes replace both pullies. That one looks to have spent a life well overtightened. I heard through the grapevine recently that HD now says to not run them so tight.

Years ago my brother told that lubing the belt save the pully, not the belt.

In the battle between rubber and steel, rubber always wins.

Honestly, what could happen if you didn’t do anything? Unless the teeth became pointy or whole teeth were missing what is there to worry about? Mine has looked like that for years. But my belt doesn’t have any rubber missing so I don’t plan to change anything anytime soon. But when I do I will change the belt and both sprockets as a set.

Ed, why are you replacing your belt? Unless you are changing the drive ratio I suggest you do nothing. If you replace your belt you should also replace both pulleys. In that regard there is little difference compared with a chain drive - the chain/belt wears out the sprockets/pulleys. The difference is that a belt drive will normally last a lot longer than a chain set-up.

Hard chrome is gone. Take a harden scribe and you will see it cut the soft aluminum. That orange peel is the crud that embeds in the rubber belt grind the soft aluminum. We have grooved concrete interstates. It ground mine off at 30K. However, it still looks like that at 50K. I do not go far, so I just ignore it. When you replace it, do both pulleys and belt.

That wear looks very good for 60K. The business end of the sprocket (the edges of the teeth) are still sharp and defined.
I wouldn't change the belt or sprockets for another 50K if the front looks the same.

Keep running it. Harley has tighten the belts specs up on the newer bikes. 3/8 to 7/16 ths now. they used to spec them looser than this. If you run the belt loose it will wear the top of the teeth on the pulley and wear the belt teeth at an angle. Needs to be right to last.
