Default 2016 water pump failures.

I have a 2016 Road Glide CVO. I had a water pump go bad at 15,000 miles. I paid 825 dollars to have it replaced. I heard a lot of these pumps have failed and the motor company changed the pump they are using. Seems to me that maybe a recall is in order. Just wondering if anyone has had like issues. At 45,000 dollars for this motorcycle it should be good for more than 15,000 miles.

You paid a premium for special paint and a bunch of extra do-dads, sadly, not for better quality parts.
As for a recall, the moco won't do a recall on an ABS system that fails leaving people without brakes. I kinda doubt you'll ever see one for a coolant pump...

My 16 RGU at 12k miles failed on a trip up North (RI), 10 days out of new vehicle warranty. The dealer was fantastic but MOCO not so much. Fortunately, I have ESP, so it cost me $50 and 2 hrs of time. Wrote a letter to the MOCO requesting reimbursement of the $50 deductible. Radio silence. I called customer service to ensure they received letter. They confirmed. It was ‘being handled’ by a different group. Requested they contact me to discuss. That was almost 3 months ago. Guess MCO hasn’t figured out who pays the salary of every employee. Yup, it’s everyone of us who buys these bikes. Keep ignoring your customers.

Sorry, I rant. Yes, these pumps fail. Interesting, when I was out in Northern CA. last month, the techs had not really seen any failures. East Coast appears to be just the opposite. Every tech i’ve Spoken with has seen more thenmtheir share of these failures. Makes you wonder what the root cause failure is of the pump.

I also have a 16 CVO RGU. Waterpump and thermostat failure at about 34K. Was riding to Wisconsin from Oklahoma. Hall's HD in Springfield, ILL. was awesome and got me right in. $50 and my ESP took care of it.
You are correct in asking why this is happening. I've heard of a bunch that has had the waterpump fail now. Of course H-D acts like its not happening.

Someone on here found the problem and was able to fix it. Beleave he had to solder connection points. Mostly seen on long trip rides, where they have time to get hot.

16 CVO RGU, I went through 2 water pumps.

1 @ 22,049 Miles, Local
1 @ 30,000 Miles (exactly), Maryville, TN

Also, my wife's 15 CVO Ultra had a water pump go out in Maryville last year.

Why so expensive? That does seem high. Mine was replaced under warranty twice. I am hoping to get one more in (the new style one) before the warranty goes out. Mine appears to eat it every spring.
