I pulled my cyclemate trailer for 4 years with my '11 103 never thought I needed more power. Just did a 110 conversion and it has more pulling power but I am not sure it makes it any better. Just like the additional power 😎

I have a 2012 FLHTK and pull a trailer. I have the 255 cams with a factory download. S&S Stealth air cleaner, decatted header with V&H fishtail slip ons. I also utilize a Rekluse clutch. I have plenty of power to pull the trailer. I live in Idaho so it gets used in the mountains. Good luck with your decision.

your bike appears to be the same color as mine. The accessories are different.

thanks I have not seen this.could there be a difference in the pre 09 models before the frame change?

Your probably right, I keep thinking about the 2010 I had. There was something wrong with that bike. I bought it new and came off a goldwing, and thought that was just the way the HD's were. This 2012 is much better. I now have a leesure lite camper that I pull. (Still have goldwing trike) Now this sounds like a lot,but it really is not. I had it weighed ready to camp, less food, and it weighed 480 lbs. It pulled behind the wing like is was not back there. I thought the scales must be wrong so took it to another scale 20 mins later and was 480 lbs. it's easy to have more back there than one might think.

You will be fine with out modifications, but your fuel mileage will suffer when pulling.
I see you are only a couple hrs ride away from me. I notice this because of type of roads those who reply ride. Your roads are similar to the roads here where I ride and will be pulling a trailer.

07/08 have higher gears due to the rear pulley. 06 in 5th is the same as 09+ in 6th. Harley obviously realized their mistake and changed the gearing back. That's why 07/08's are slower out of the hole and typically don't use 6th until 75+ mph. Not to mention the 96 vs the 103. It's why I just picked up a Japanese sportster pulley for my 07.

480 Lbs. is a fairly heavy load. That's better than 50% of the bike itself. If you still need more pull. Consider changing engine wheel / ratios rather than messing with the engine. It's cheaper and you get predictable results.
