Default 2008 E.G. Classic FLHTC Mistery Oil Leak

Bike has over 125K miles, top end was redone at 100K, recently replaced the stator. Here's the kicker:

Anytime it's riden over 10-15 min. or more than 10-15 miles when you park the bike it marks it's territory leaving a spot anywhere from the size of a dime to a quarter, the hotter the weather the bigger the spot. It appears to be coming from somewhere around the front or left side of engine, then accumulating around the engine oil drain plug where it then starts to drip.I also found oil in the front area of the right saddlebag and on the exhaust crossover pipe, it looked like there was also some oil around the front pushrod tube and lifter tappet block, air filter is dry as I did the breather by pass a long time ago. When the stator was replaced a primary gasket kit was used replacing all primary seals and outer primary cover gasket. The rubber where the stator wires come out is dry. It is engine oil that's dripping, I check the oil level everyday as I ride it 50 or more miles a day and everyday the oil level on the dipstick gets just a little lower. Any suggestions on what or where to check next I appreciate it as I plan on doing a 500 mile weekend trip soon.

If you are sure it’s engine oil check the filter. But also remember that the engine oil is stored in a pan under the trans. So you have the pan gasket and drain plug also to consider. Did the engine ever use oil before? Because the level going down may not be related. The most common leaks are seals on the primary and trans. Factory fluids all look the same when they are on the ground.

If the oil level is noticeably lower from “day to day”, you’d better get on this before you mess up your good jeans. Clean up all visible surface oil using your wife’s vanity mirror and flashlight to see the underside. Pay close attention to cleaning the push rod tube(s). Once you’ve cleaned up all you can see, ride it for a short bit, then start your search for the leak origin, starting from the top of the previously wet tube as gravity will take it to a lower point.

I had a mystery leak turned out it was coming from where the speedometer cable entered the top of the motor between the cylinders had too many o rings installed just a thought,

It’s been a lot of years since a touring bike had a speedometer cable. But he hasn’t said what year it is.

First, to the OP, with what you describe, a 500 mile trip should not be a problem, but may help you find the problem (but what do I know?)

To the OP:
You really need to clean everything, then ride and check for leaks. Many use a powder (baby powder, talc … oh wait, talc is not PC ..) or something similar to locate the leak as the drips travel before being noticed.

Since you ruled out the stator wire, I would be looking at the shifter shaft or the IPB , but you are going to need to get down and dirty to find it.

Remember, the bike rests on the jiffy stand, which leans the bike to the left.
Fluids travel, and a leak ( like the 2009+ bikes which sometimes show from the primary cover) can come from anywhere, sometimes (like the example given) the other side of the engine (as with the aforementioned having an exhaust pipe bracket on the right side showing up as a leak on the left side of the bike.)
