As a biker, I'm a lot more aware of what's going on around me when driving my cage. I'm not nearly as casual about driving as I was before I started riding again. Plus, I have a healthy respect for keeping distance in front of or behind other bikes when I'm in my cage.

I'd say for sure. Everytime I read about a bike wreck where they interviewed the cager the answer is always the same....."I didn't see him". We know what we're looking for.

Maybe on all those warning stickers they put on the visor of new vehicles they should put a pic of a motorcycle....

As I recall someone (and I don't remember if it was MSF, AMA, or Snell Foundation so don't ask for written proof) did a study back in the early to mid-90's and found that motorcycle riders were involved in fewer accidents while driving a cage than non-riders.

I believe it's because we're more alert of what's happening at intersections, we watch other drivers more closely, we're more accustomed to anticipating threats, and most importantly- we watch for motorcyclists.

I went to look at a used car one day. We took it for a little test drive and after a few miles the owner said, " you ride a motorcycle don't you'. I said yes I did, how did you know that. He said it was obvious from the way I drove and was extra careful through intersections. So I guess my answer is a definite Yes.

Absolutely makes me a better cager. Much more aware. Not to mention, I now look at road hazards to file away in my memory banks for bike riding. Example: railroad tracks that have asphault missing in chunks on either side. I'd HATE to hit that with my bike.......

I had this long paragraph all planned out. You guys already said it all.
I'm WAY more alert. Head on a swivel, constant scan, eye contact, trying to predict intentions, watching THEIR mirrors etc.

I think we have developed better defensive driving habits on our bikes which tranlates into better driving habits in the cage as well.
