Default use rivets on tour pak hardware or machine screws?

Had to repaint my tour pak lid and I'm debating whether I should use the HD rivets when putting my tour pak lidhardware back on, or just use the equivalent sized stainless steel machine screws and nuts. The bottom rivets on the lid were under the gasket anyway and the top ones wouldn't be really long enough to snag anything. I plan on getting a lid organizer down the road also so that would cover them anyway The reason being is I noticed that one of the rivets on the hinge on the pak itself is loose and it rattles and this way I could tighten them up down the road if need be. Any thoughts?

As a mechanic , I always lean towards screws/bolts and nuts.
If you have no clearance problems , I'd go with aircraft nuts (nyloc type).
As you mentioned , you could tighten or adjust if needed later.
There are some nice looking stainless screw head designs like a socket head cap screw that might look neat when you're done.
I think rivets are used for ease of assembly/vibration from the factory , but when you're all done , you stuck with how they tightened.
Just my 2 cents.

Go with Mick's advice (including the blue loctite); you will have adjustability for a better fit. I went with rivets after my King TP was repainted and thetech at the dealership installing the hardwaremanaged to crack the paint installing a rivet; and, the closure is not quite perfect because of the hinge location--I need to move the lid very, veryslightly forward to fully engage the latches.

I tried themachine screws andnylocks when I repaired and repainted my pac. The problem is when you close the lid the bolt heads or nuts on the lid interfere with the lip of the pac. This is on about half of them, the other half are out of the way. Also, you can't use standard blind rivets or you run into the same problem. I just had my local dealer do all of them with the Harley rivets ($80). Pricey but it solved all the issues.

I ran into the same problem yesterday with the machine screws interfering with the lip of the tour pak. Has anyone used a dremel to cut out the part thats in the way.

For $49.95 you can get the new TP hinges from the dealer that come with new screws, problem solved and the new hinges look great.

Ditto, you already have the hard part done, taking the old rivets out. Now just screw on the new TP hinges.
