Default Ohlins shocks......that good!?

I came upon Ohlins S36HR1C1L shocks on RevZilla.
Price......$1549!!
Thats a hefty price tag!!
Does anyone have these?
And is the ride THAT significantly better to warrant a price like that?
I might be changing out whats on my 2010 RK.
How can I tell if what's on there now are the original shocks?

I don't have any experience with them, but I am looking forward to the answer to your question. I'm skeptical of the need for remote reservoirs on a touring bike. I mean, how hot can the fluid get, they're not working that hard under normal circumstances.

I hear ya!
I'm coming from 30 or so years with the same shocks on my 81shovelhead and my 2010 RK bottomed out a couple times while 2 up.
I brought the PSI up to 20 so well see what that does.
But I am curious about how different the ride rwally is with these reservoir types.
Also........those little cylinders look very cool on the back IMHO!!

I have the HD357 series....AWESOME ride.......all ways adjustable. After thousands of miles and money searching for the best ride I found it.
My *** and spine are happier for it.

I ride solo and this is why I bought the base Ohlin rear shocks. No rebound adjustment either, but I’m not an aggressive rider. I’ve owned two sets of Bitubos, that cost less, AND have adjustable rebound. I have been very pleased. GREAT value. I’ll be buying another set from DK soon.

I have the Ohlins HD-357. The remote reservoir allows for a slightly longer stroke. That was important to me.

Yes, I have a set made by the late Howard of motorcycle metal fame. Best ride I’ve ever had. Originally on my 05 Ultra where I went from stock to Progressive to the Ohlins. I swapped them onto my 14 Limited and they are still fantastic. Mine are a more basic model that was about $700 when I bought them years ago.

Ohlins suspension is the real deal .. came standard on my new 1978 Husqvarna CR 250 mx bike and was always highly regarded at the Pro level.. I would not spend that much with remote reservoirs on a Harley touring bike..more adjustments to fiddle with (how many owners really understand damping and rebound adjustments enough to alter and improve compliance and behavior intended for varying road conditions and such) plus they require expensive rebuilds periodically which I think is recommended about ~25-30 K miles ..If I was to feel the need to upgrade I would just get FOX non remote shocks for half the price of those Ohlins, and just set the preload properly ..but your money, time and effort to spend as you desire .. my anyway

I got Ohlin's basic shocks from Howard and love them and so glad I didn't over pay for performance I didn't need.
I did go with FKS 226 up front, no buyers remorse at all.
