Default Add Cruise to '01 RKC?

Just wondering if anyone has done this...and, if so, just how difficult (meaning both complexity and cost?) is might be. I've noticed that the HD catalogue lists only cruise "kits" for '02 forward, so I'm assuming that to add to my '01 it would have to be salvage or aftermarket? Thanks for any advice or experience/ideas.

Here's a link to Cruisemount.com. Dave, the owner, is knowledgeable and has what you need:

Haven't done it yet but when I do I'll use the company listed above... looks like a clean, proffessional way to go!

Just what I was looking for. I had been told that there was no way to add cruise control to my FatBoy!

I started working with Dave, the owner of Cruisemount, last summer trying to get cruise control for my '04 police model EG. At the time, he didn't offer anything for my bike. Turns out he used to live in N. Georgia and was coming here for Thanksgiving to visit friends.

So he prepared a wiring harness for my bike, came to my garage, and, since it was a prototype, installed the harness for me, taking lots of pics and measurements so that he could offer it for other police EG's which he now does. He was very professional, used the correctly colored wires to duplicate the HD wiring diagram, etc. I have been using the cruise regularly since the installation was done last November and it has worked flawlessly. A couple of other guys have since used his harness for police EG's and been completely pleased.

Many thanks! That's exactly what I needed -- sounds like Cruisemount has worked hard to put this together for us. Based on what I see on Dave's website, I know what to look for and can work with him to assemble needed partsand install factory cruisey "old" RK. I'm excited!
I appreciate the info., Guys -- maybe one of these days I'll accumulate experience and be able to help some others here and return the favors. Meanwhile, this continues to be a great "neighborhood" of tremendously helpful people.

Mac: You're welcome. Let us know how this works for you. After you do your bike, you will be able to help the next guy looking for what you have already done.

If you have a decent dealer, he can look up the old part number for the kit for a 2001. Then he can do a search and see if any other dealer in the states has one in stock. You can find a lot of older parts like this.
I installed cruise in 1999 Road King. If I remember right, the gas tank had to come off to run the wiring harness. The handlebar switches (right side) also have to come, that is where the control goes (different clamp assy). The on/off lights are mounted in the fork cover and the assy switch is used to turn off/on. The battery has to come out to mount the control box. It's not difficult, you just have to be patient and take your time. I think it's VERY worthwhile.
