Default 98 radio installed in a 05 (info on AVC)

I just installed a 98 tape deck from an ultra in a 05 standard. Just wanted to post some info. on a problem I had. Somewhere between 98 -05 the AVC system changed and when I installed my radio the AVC (automatic volume control) worked backwards. It actually gets quieter. After a phone call to Pez (hogtunes) he directed me to the makers of the radio (radio sound?) They told me thatwith theolder radios in the newer bike this problem would happen. Only fix, cut or pull the pin out of the plug (that's what i did). White wire with the green marker. Can't say much about the hidden amplified antenna or the cassette sound but with a mp3 hooked to the aux out it sounds awesome! Couldn't be happier! Everything else was plug and play. I even get the weather!

Congrats on the installation; glad you are pleased.Recently installed an'02 radio/CB in a buddy's '06 police model EG and everything works except the AVC. The white/green wire is the speed signal wire that lets the radio know how fast the bike is going so the AVC can operate. Surprised to learn that the AVC is different on the '98-'05 radios.

Props to Pez for directing you to Radio Sound--some vendors would say "not my product, not my problem; good luck finding a solution."

Alright Creepshow. I have a 05 Road Glide that I bought recently. It was loved and maintained meticulously by its prior owner. May he RIP a little better thanks to you. It was doing the exact same thing. Volume going down as I speeded up and volume getting louder as I slowed. As soon as I read your post I went out to the garage and took the fairing off.. Removed white and green wire. Works, perfect now. I guess prior owner replaced radio at some time. It had a 02 sticker on the radio. Thank you again for the fix.
