Default Garmin Zumo 550 Dealer

I'm interested in buying a GPS system, and I'd appreciate a recommendation for a reputable dealer. I've surfed the web and found a big difference in prices, from $495 to over $800. Are the cheaper dealers selling the same product as the others (New in box, refurbished...)? I've heard of some selling the unit with European maps instead of North American. Anyone with experience, suggestions?

$800 bucks sounds a little high, is that installed??? I can get around most of north America with about $75. in the old folding paper G.P.S.units I have used for years, but then I'm just an old truck driver. Some times on a motorcycle if I take the wrong turn off, I start a new adventure

Abe's of Maine is a reputable dealer (got mine there) that usually has competitive pricing. Most searches will also have a dealer rating & their add will tell you referb, or new in box. If the add doesn't make you comfortable ignore the low price, it's bait.

A couple others you could try are tvnav.com & gpsdiscount.com Good luck!

Got my 550 from PCNation.com, 648.00 new in box and no ship charge. Loaded up a 4 gig sd card with mp3's and never turn on radio unless checking the weather band.

Bought my Zumo locally from store with website gps4fun.com. Don't know how their prices compare but Rick is first rate. Bought the wife's Nuvi 660 from Amazon.com for a fabulous price on the Monday after Thanksgiving. That was my first from Amazon and I've been back three times since. I avoided them for years because I didn't like their marketing strategy and customer data retention policies but after a couple of bad experiences with others, I got over that. You'll love the Zumo but be aware that they have a tendancy to develop problems. Don't hesitate to let Garmin fix what ain't right.

I went to the Zumo Forum and ask the same question. All said to stay away from the NY Camera Shops. I guess some sell just the GPS and no accessories with the unit. PCNation seems to be a big seller. www.zumoforums.com

I have purchased several items from www.gpscity.com over the years and had good service with fair prices.

PCNation.......service was great. Got here in 1 day! I was amazed. Would not recommend cameraddict.com. They have lower prices....ordered one.....then told it would be another 8 weeks before they had them back in stock. Their website always states that they are in stock. Pay a bit more and get good, dependable service.
