Default Numbers

I have a friend with a stock 2012 RG. We put true duals, free flow air cleaner and SEPRT and he got these numbers. I would think with a good cam he could get lots more.

According to this link (Harleytuner may chime in here), STD "will always be about 4 % higher than the SAE power numbers."

Mr. Woods is really upping his game lately with the new cams (222,888). For me, that new 222 looks great because I ride a heavy two up sled and the earlier torque really appeals to me. I see the SE 255's going bye bye before long. Thanks to Andobone for his posts. We both wish spring time was closer at hand! Merry Christamas
Head work will come down the road for sure. Merry Christmas to you and yours, and to all my fellow riders.

Default I'm thinking about it...

Yes, I have to admit, I am thinking about it. The bike runs great and I have no issues with that part. As you know there is the issue of the high cold cranking compression of the SE 255/103" combination and I am faced with pulling the heads to have manual releases installed and I'm going to have to replace the starter clutch drive at a minimum and perhaps the whole starter, all as a result of my choice of cams. Also there is the issue of the fact that SE 255 cams trap heat in the head because of the lack of valve overlap. I am in the process of trying to decide how best to remedy my engine issues. I am in no way happy about this as I love the way this bike runs now after you did such good work on it but I need to make the best choice here and I am really thinking I'd be better off with Woods 222 cams and a new tune rather than keeping the 255's and pulling the heads for releases. I welcome your thoughts on this as I value your opinion highly. A warning to any reading this......DO NOT run SE 255 cams in a 103" without either manual or automatic compression releases, unless of course the conundrum I am facing appeals to you then go right ahead. And a very Merry Christmas to you too harleytuner!

A correct cam choice would change this motor considerably. There are many excellent choices out there these days and your friend has but to consider the parameters of his riding to make the best choice. For instance one up mainly or two? Does this person ride aggressively or does he prefer to set back and enjoy the ride and wants to be able to just twist the throttle a bit at lower rpm's and have it respond immediately? There are many knowledgeable people on this forum, tuners and engine builders and riders who have personally experienced enough to guide anyone in the right direction. It will be interesting to me to hear of which direction your friend chose.

Just finished engine mods on my new 2013 CVO Road King. I installed the Screamin Eagle upgrage kit part # 27548-10a (10.5:1 compression: 259E cams) and a Dragos Dragula 2:1

Dyno came in at 115hp and 122 torque. havent picked up the bike yet as its way to cold to ride it home. ill try to post the dyno sheet in a few days when i get the bike home.

Happy Holidays

I used the Screaming Eagle Pro EFI Super Tuner, it was included in the upgrade kit. My local HD dealer (Wildcat Harley Davidson) did the work and the tune.
