I have an 09 SG and first ordered the 8" clearview and returned it for 6.5" clearview. They both worked fine, the 8" had a little more wind protection, but I think the 6.5" looks better and offers enough wind protection for me. I'm 5' 8" and also installed the HD Reach Seat so that lowered me another inch. I could also see over the 6'5" better. Key factors of the correct winshield include seat height, your height, viewing over/through the shield and how much protection you desire.

Check out my album. Sig pic has 6.5" recurve. I'm 5'9" and it works great, BTW I'm USAF, too, stationed at Hurby.

I've had my 6.5" recurve on for about a year and love it. Previously had a 8" straight (a cut down 9 1/2" hd) and this works just as well as that one. I'm 6' and get no buffeting, but my seat is really low (see pic). Even when I put the big couch seat on for 2 up riding, it still works pretty well.

My 8" Clearview with recurve lasted about 10 minutes and came off. Didn't like it at all! Made my own for about 5 bucks and love it. It's funny how 100 guys have 100 different opinions on things? To each their own! It's what makes the world go around.

I measured it after thinking about your post - and sure enough - it measures 8"! I wondered what was going on when I compared it to a 6" HD windscreen! I guess Clearview will be getting an email from me....
on the clearview website, they mention that there are 2 ways to measure the windshield. one of them being vertical distance from the fairing. i wonder if they measured it that way.....

well, thats your opinion. some folks care more about the look than they do how well the windshield works. i guess thats why they make so many different sizes, so you can have it your way.

What was better about the wind vest vs. the other ones you tried?

I'm 5-7
Klock Werks 6---Vibrated my Sunglasses off....Looked cool ...But wasnt Rider Friendly at 70MPH

Fastaire 6 was my Second Favorite but still got a bunch of wind and Buffeting

Fastaire 8 Was to tall for me I was fighting looking over it or through it

Clearview 6.5 Recurve I tried was ok too but still had some buffeting and I didnt want to wait the time it took to get one...I borrowed one to try

The Wind Vest for me is right on! It has a little more Curve than the Clearview and seems to push more air over me

Just ordered a 10in wind vest, I had a clear view on my fatboy and it was better then stock but still way to much buffeting. Couldnt wear a helmet if I needed to. I plan to travel out of state with this ultra and some have helmet laws so I have to get this to work. My new screen should be here next week sometime. Everything else I’ve tried has not worked. Hd king, Memphis faring, Clearview 23 inch, now this…
