Default Speedometer calibration?

I rode past a couple of those speed radar thingamajiggers on the highway yesterday. The first one surprized me when I looked at my speedo and it said 71mph while the radar had me at 66. The next one,70 and 65. Is this SOP for the 09 touring bikes? I've seen it around town going much slower but it seemed to only be off by a one or two mph but 5?

Had the opposite experience about a week ago on my '09 RG, but at a lower speed. Went past one of those speed signs, indicated speed on bike of 40 and the sign says I'm doing 45. A bit concerning, come the day I ride by a cop that needs to make his monthly ticket quota and stops me for doing 5 over!

I would first check your speed with a GPS. Those radar 'thing-a-ma-jigs' may have been off.

My 05 EG is about 3 mph too slow.

As a side note, I've owned GPS's since they were first available. I've checked the speed on several cagers and bikes over the years. ALL of the speedos were slow. I've always assumed that was designed in to prevent lawsuits over speeding tickets.

On the other hand, all of my boat speedo's have read high. The boat manufacturers want you to think you are going faster than you really are.

Mine was 4 mph slow per GPS. A two button adjuster was supplied with my Baker DD7 which allowed me to correct the speedometer with GPS. Baker told me that HD set the mph slow to cover their own ****.
