I just changed my oil and transmission this morning. Black filter from the dealer, Valvoline 20W50 from autozone for $3.99 a qt (should have bought more when it was on sale for $2.99) and a bottle of gear lube for the transmission for about $6 Done and done!

Not to highjack this thread, but when I had the 15K done, the guy did a bunch of work. He went thru the bike from front to back. Course, he was an independent mechanic, but he did a bunch of work, (and for less money).
Oil in three holes, air filter, plugs, he checked every nut and bolt and found a nut and washer missing on the motor mount. He also lubed the cables and adjusted the front brake cable.

What I never see mentioned in these threads, is that you can always do SOME of the maint yourself, and have the dealer do what your not comfortable with.

I do all the fluid changes, cable lubes, brake check, etc. Then take it to the dealer and have them inspect critical fasteners, belt tension, and clutch adjustment. (which I have done myself, but my shop has a minimum charge, so might as well have them do it.)

Costs me $44 at the dealer. About $100 for the 10k intervals. The rest I do myself. It does not have to be an all or nothing thing.

The 15K service includes lots of things including checking certain bolt torques, tires, belt, fork oil, etc, etc so $333 isn't bad. Its over $400 at my dealer.

I'd be doing that myself if I were you. I do mine, and have saved a ton of $$$$. Get the manual, and go for it.

Just had my 15K done on Friday
AFTER using the $150 off coupon they sent me = $180
The total was $331
I did bring my own Amsoil with me as they are more $$$$
They checked the bike from front to back
I had to some warranty work;
Cig lighter no longer worked
Amber bulb burnt out, I didn't know, but they found it
I know I could some of it myself, but my time is limited

New rear tire, fluid change and I guess you could call it bike inspection, $460 at a dealer here in Michigan. Alot of money but I like the piece of mind of bike being inspected. Good thing rear tire was changed, mechanic showed me a 3 or 4 in" nail in my tire. Was not loseing air though.

Default Maintenance contract

When I bought my bike the dealer offered a maintenance contract for $1000. I guess I was a fool but oil changes are $15 because I want synthetic oil in all the holes. All recommended maintenance is covered except stuff that wears out.
