The dealer is correct after 2 years of using the non harley brand oil your warranty will in fact be voided
There is one and only one exception to the rule

The bigger issue is a pi$$ed dealer can refuse to do warranty work.

I have 1 dealer near me, and the next closest are a couple hours away.

As many others I have little confidence in my local's ability to perform
simple maintenance ( story for another time ) however if I have
a bike with issues that's not running I will have big $$$ just to
get it somewhere else for warranty.

So while under warranty I dont push too hard.

I bought my first bike from them, never again, Owner is a *******!!! Fired a good guy in Willamasport H-D. Go to another dealer, app h-d or somewhere else. Running Amsoil in my bike, APP H-D never blinked when I told them this, work under warranty.

Doesn't have to be v-twin. The 15-50 is fine and actually better simply because it gets to the moving parts quicker because it's thinner at start up. The v-twin designation is such because the jap bikes are a shared sump and need the JASO spec. If you knew anything about oil instead you would know that the best oil for a Harley would be a 5w-50. Because of the 5w means it's a 5wieght when cold so it gets to the parts quicker at start up where most wear occurs. As long as the last number on the bottle is 50 your good. And even a diesel oil is great for our bikes because they resist shear. Most 20w-50 oils shear down to a 40 weight in 20 riding cycles whereas a diesel oil stays a 40 weight for the duration of it interval. This thread is so full of uneducated fail I am baffled some of these posters remember to breathe. Did we get that guys. As long as the second number on the bottle is 50 it's fine

"warranty voided because customer insisted on using Mobil 1 15W-50"
of course...mobil 15W50 is not motorcycle oil. You can use any brand oil you desire if the seller of your vehicle does not provide it for free.....meaning...if you dealer provides free oil changes using Harley oil...they can specifiy using Kmart oil will void your warranty....if they do not provide the oil for free...they can only specific the grade and the weight of motor oil...not the brand. Motorcycle oil has a different formulation than automobile oil and because of that, usng automobile oil could void your warranty.

Mobil has 10W40 and 20W50 vtwin oil and the chemical make up of Vtwin oil is different than automobile oil.
