Here's a simple question...........
I put a new horn cover on my friend's horn, just a simple cover swap.
Before the swap the horn worked and sounded fine. After the swap, the horn sounds weak and sick. Does the tightness of the mounting nut have anything to do with the sound? I swapped the wires thinking that was causing it, but it didn't change at all. But, if he squeezes the horn to the cover at an angle.........the horn sounds normal again. As soon as he lets go, it sounds dead again. Any ideas?? Steve |
What cover did you use, I would put back the old one if it sound normal again then it has to be the way the cover is sitting that it is muffling the sound.
|
Is the horn contacting the cover in any way? Sound is simply transmission of vibration and maybe the cover is surpressing the horn's isolation? OR maybe a "bad ground" (when in doubt blame the ground)
|
somehow the cover is surpressing the horn. ive had it happen many times on different bike horn cover combos!

I had mine do the same thing, I took the cover off, pulled the wires off and then reconnected them, and put the cover back on; horn worked fine. I think it was a connection issue. Just redo what you did and see if that works.

The cover is the air-wing cover. I removed it from my bike this week, and installed it on his bike today. It's not blocking the horn at all, and it's not making contact at all, even swapping the wires didn't work.
Not sure what it could be, we'll take it apart this week and see what we can find. Of course now after hearing my Mini-Beast he wants one of those now. Steve |
Same thing happen to me two times. I ended up taking the bike in to stealer. They replaced the horn, it was still under wananty.

I'm in the middle of one of these situations right now.

Try to loosen up were the horn mounts to the cover, I had the same problem and after backing off bolts all was fine.
