Anyone put a 6 gal tank on a pre 08 model?

The difference between 160 and 200 miles per tank is worth having, although if it is too much effort or cost I will carry on getting by. Having an older carb bike, travelling with these young FI whippersnappers getting a higher mileage is a chore. I would prefer to have the advantage over them!

One more thing to consider with the swap, since the 6 gallon tanks don't have a cross-over line at the front, it is lower in the rear to accommodate the gas flow from one side to the other. If you do anything to upset that flow, you're probably loosing the gallon you're trying to gain! Of course at that point, after all the welding that's required - what's two more fuel pipes?

There IS an aftermarket 6-gallon tank pre-08
Hey, all
I looked into this because I'd really like to have that little bit of extra cruising range, too (05 FLHTCUI; 205 miles max, found out by accident one day. Stupid HD fuel gauge). When I asked at the shop if an 08 gas tank (or any of the 6-gallon ones post-05) would work on my bike, I was told pretty much what Dawg covered; the frames are different (the dealer also wanted to know why I'd want more cruising range; since then I've spoken with someone else when I go there).
There's ONE aftermarket 6-gallon tank that'll fit an Electra Glide and its sib. You can find it in and order it from the Drag catalog, and it seems like I found it on a couple of websites. Only reason I haven't gotten one and had it put on is the price tag: $1000 (no lie). Considering all the other mods I've got in mind for my bike, a kilobuck for a gallon of gas is just a bit much.
I agree; someone out there could make themselves a bundle if they could come up with FLHT-sized 6-gallon tanks and sell them cheaper than Drag does.
