Difficulty to change out speakers is extremely easy.
Here's a thread about changing speakers (with pictures).

I'm not sure why he's using a racthet wrench though, I use a screw driver.

Haven't heard the Boom speakers. But I put in the 3 way for the freeway from hogtunes on my Ultra. I am very happy with my choice thus far. Can only imagine it will be all I need for a long time. Now if my tweeter pod would show up I would be even happier. I ended up getting all 6 speakers and the amp for about $420. Tweeter pod for about $150. Not a bad total price for an upgrade. Just something to think about.

I bought a pair of the Black "Boom!" speakers during the Summer... was planning on installing them but then tried a pair of $80 Sony noise-cancelling "in ear" headphones to play my ipod riding-tunes playlist... obviously that's not considered "legal" in most places but considering you can't hear anything but the wind and your engine anyway it's not like your losing hearing, you just stay as alert as you would normally and you have flawless sound and flawless tunes while you ride... most helmets or scarfs would cover them up anyway if you're worried about people looking, but in-ear headphones can't be seen anyway except for the thin wires hanging down... anyone asks you can just tell them it's headphones for your phone. Done.. no need to have external speakers competing with your engine and the wind. (just make sure you have a "mute" switch for anytime a riding buddy pulls up to ask you anything. Ended up selling the $400 Boom speakers on ebay to break even. Since when was riding a Harley being about following "Rules". No cages!!

I had the Boom speakers in my SG most of the summer. I like them a bunch. Much better than others costing twice the price. These Booms are very efficient. No amp here.

Good to hear these favourable Boom reviews and considering no amp, makes it seem like a cost effective read cheap(er) upgrade for us family guys on a tight budget. Did any of these include that rear speaker boom speaker porthole into the tourpak ?

I had them put on my Street Glide. They definitely sound better than stock, but I didn't get an amp with them so they aren't that much louder.

Rich67 01-04-2012 06:46 PM

I have them,IMO good improvement over stock.I just got the speakers,I figured if I needed I could add the amp later it was very little savings buying them as a package than buying them seperate so figured I'd start with the speakers don't see no need for the amp.
