Touring through the Sierra Nevada's
#12
Thanks again for the recommendations, fellas. PKellyMc, I've done a lot of that first leg through beer city (Hood River) and down through bend, but never been to Crater Lake. It's one of my many destinations on the bike. Day trips over Mt. Hood, through Hood River, over to Goldendale and back on 14 are one of our usuals.
Great info guys!

Mammoth is beautiful!! While you're there, you HAVE to stop and see the
"Devil's Postpile" It's a lava formation (of sorts) You look at it and it's (almost)
as unbelieveable as the Grand Canyon. Not as huge, but it's a real WTF.
+1 on the going thru Yosemite. But . . . take the southern route out.
Highway 140 thru Mariposa (Stop at El Portal-Ceder Lodge for a burger)
and continue to Merced to either Hwy 5 (or 99) then 46 over to 101. Then 101 south to thru Atascadero (Stop At the HD dealer there (Gary Bang) then take Hwy 41 (You can actually take 41 from Kettleman City- Google it)
to the coast. You'll hit Hwy 1 right at Morrow bay. From there north past (or stop at) Hearst Castle and up to Big Sur (River Inn) then Carmel, Monterey, Santa Cruz etc etc.
Have fun !!
