Engine life on Street Glides

Thanks for all the comments - and yes I had been looking at some higher milage older models but not sure about the life of the bike engines. For those who are a year or two old it seems the selling price is virtually the same as a brand new model around here - so for that I would rather get a new one and know it was spankin' new with warranty. Looking to buy in the fall - so have time to continue looking.

I'm no expert. But I'm thinking, if taken care of properly, Harley engines should last as long as any other motor.
Keep in mind that most engines blow up, throw rods, seize up, etc. Not because of any lifespan limit. But because of some other issue (like neglect, abuse).
Yeah, stuff might break or wear out on any vehicle. But generally not the motor, if taken care of properly. Preventive maintenance, taking care to do recommended services on time, and not abusing it, will help make a Harley engine last as long as any other vehicle motor.
P.S. The motor is probably the least of your worries on any vehicle, if regular service intervals are followed. I'd be looking at tires, brakes, rotors, electrical, etc first.

I'm hopin' my '07 96 runs a long time because I plan on keeping my Heritage for quite a while. And, I don't think I'd even consider ever buying a new Harley. All mine have been used and it's worked out. Got my '01 1200 with about 8k on it, my '07 Streetbob had 300 miles on it (got it off someone on this site) and my '07 Heritage had less than 700 miles and I saved a boatload from new. Especially with the '07s not that much has been done in the way of improvements in the last few years (except the '09 baggers) to warrant needing anything newer than an '07.
