I went with the IDS and Redline at the same time - really quieted it down. It was still noticeable, especially when headed downhill and off the throttle. I thought I'd gotten used to it, until I got the RGU... then I realized how often I'd avoided 5th.

If the trans oil doesn't work, here's a few options:
Stock HD "2011" 6 speed trans. Upgraded parts and helical 5th. Around $1500 DIY through Zanotti's, Chicago, etc...

Baker F6F (5th gear whine). Around $900 DIY.

Baker DD7 (7speed trans). Around $3000 DIY.

To me the 2011 stock trans seems like the best deal. Just bolt it in - no need to fool with trans internals. Although the DD7 seems pretty cool, and the trans internals are pretty easy to swap once you get the Main Drive Gear out.

Forgot to mention these parts which are now standard on newer models.
SE Compensator. About $250 DIY.

IDS. About $205 DIY.

In my opinion the IDS is MANDATORY! Smooths out most driveline pulses. The SE Comp finishes the job, and will add some service life to your starter.

Easy fix. Order an IDS (Isolated Drive System). Starting in 08 they came standard on touring models. For the 07 you will have to order it and best to have it installed by someone who has the right bearing installation tool. No more whine. Will ride like a dream. No need to really go with a heavier gear oil if you don't want to.
