You know what's so funny about this thread. I've spent countless hours thinking about why the right grip was hotter than the left grip while riding. And just by chance, I came up with the same conclusion.

Mine have worked real well for two years now.
Never noticed a difference in temps.
Never need to raise them above 3 or 3.5.
The thermostat in the grip allows the system to maintain the set temp regardless of ambient temp. Meaning that 3 is 3 regardless of whether it's 40* or 15* outside.
If the thermostat is only on one side and you remove your hand from that side it may heat up to compensate for the lack of heat from your hand, however both sides would heat up. You only feel your right hand get warmer because your left hand is off the grip.

Do the 2009 Ultras already have the wiring in the handlebars? That would simplify the install.
I will give you a report folowing this weekend trip which will be 5 hours round trip with the temperature in the 50's. I have a 2010 Road Glide Custom and I do not know where they will put the wiring.

Thanx for the info. Explains some of my experiences with mine. Using them now for the 2nd year. No problems, never had to be set higher than 3. When I originally got my limited I thought I would never use them, turned out to be one of it's best features. Get a lot of grief from friends about my "heated Grips". I just smile and say "jealous". Wouldn't be without mine now.
