This will continue for a few minuets until enough air has passed over to cool it down. Behaves like a 69 Ford LTD on unleaded gas. Turning the rear cylinder of/on makes no diffrence (an option on my bike).
Shared my concerns with HD dealers who in turn tried several things working directly with HD. This included twice remaping the electronic efi control, working with synthetic oil, and playing with the switch. Now they consider the issue close with the explination " the bike is running in the designed peramiters" - nothing / no more help.
As far as I am concerned this engine is destine to cook itself, score the cylinders, and fail. HD missed the boat on this one. Just one mans opinion. I'm selling while it still runs and going back to BMW. Good luck!
There is only one solution to remedy the problem you described. It's an air-cooled engine so airflow is essential to keep it cool. When you're sitting still in traffic there is no airflow.

An engine cooling fan is the only solution I'm aware of to keep your cool in congested traffic conditions.

Some testing that I have done shows that the cylinder head temperatures can rise by as much as 27 degrees per minute while sitting still at idle. At that rate you can see that it doesn't take very long for your engine to become "too" hot. An engine cooling fan switched on during these type of idle conditions will prevent the "overheating" and the coughs, spudders, and shudders you've described.

Here's a link to the testing I did if you are interested... https://www.hdforums.com/forum/touri...test-data.html

My 2012 Roadglide ran with a oil temp of almost 300 degrees!

I bought that Xied setup and put it in and now I am at 230 degrees.

These bikes are REAL lean from the factory!

Get rid of the catalytic converter ( head pipe) and throw it in the nearest dumpster then buy a tuner like the Power Vision PV-1 or Power Commander V.

problem solved.

For the new owners the free advice is you will not get a bike the runs smooth, it won't run cool, it may leak fluids on your garage floor, and everything rattles. Just be prepared to upgrade what you need. It is all part of the fun. Harley Davidson is not a brand where you are buying a perfectly engineered machine - Far from it.

And then you woke up!

If the oil temperatures you are reporting are accurate, then there's a whole lot more to the story than Xied's.

Yes after riding a 2008 FLHTC got my 2011 Road Glide Custom this July. HOT yes it does run lots hotter. Now after putting on new pipes, stage 1 and new air intake,,, back to being cool. LEAN<< that all I can say it runs lean before the changes and gets warm.
