Default Avon Cobras or Metzeler ME-880's?

I've been eyeing a wheel set package that Eastern Performance sells on eBay for several months now. I just noticed that they dropped the price by 5% for a short time so I'm thinking I'm going to pull the trigger. I know 5% doesn't sound like much, but on this set of wheels that equates to a couple hundred bucks (enough to almost cover the cost of one of the rotors).

They offer a choice between the Avon Cobras and the Metzler ME-880's and I'm torn between which ones to get. The Metzler ME-880 seems to have more tread grooves than the Avon Cobra so I would think that they may offer better traction in wet conditions, but I've also heard that Avon's are a good tire. Any suggestions or experience with these two tires?

I prefer Avons for the handling, have run both & Metz will probably get a few more miles. The Avons just seem to be more responsive & initiate turns better.

metzlers had problems from tires that were made in south brazil or somewhere like that, you might want to check site sponsor coastal moto wheels to see if they will beat the price...Jeff there is usually very competitive

My Metzler ME-880's after 2000 miles had sidewall seperation ran the correct pressures, replaced them with Avons a few weeks ago so far they seem to be quieter & better handeling than the 880's.

+1 on what leo says, I have been keeping an eye on some Coastal Moto wheels they sell as a package, looks like they are about $400-500 cheaper than the Eastern Perf. wheels on ebay

Just depends if you like the Coastal wheels.

Got my wheel/tire combo from Eastern Perf with ME 880's. Have worn out 2 sets of the 880's in 18K miles. Seems odd but the front and rear wear out about the same time with them. If weight is an issue the 880 is available in a reinforced version. Currently trying a Bridgestone rear that is 1/2 the price of the 880s but only have 1K miles on it so far

I'll never run Metzler again. Had a sidewall blow out on 880s w/ 1500 miles. Not fun!
