Check the O-rings on the breather if it has any, those are famous for cracking or getting ruined from over-tightening, had to replace one yesterday on my A/C

Too much oil in crankcase. Dealer told me to only fill to about half a quart low, engine hot, on jiffy stand.

I'd put just a little more but his statement is right. This is more than likely your problem.

Fill the oil till it says full and its gonna flow out the breather a bit, better off filling it half quart low.

..agreed..you don't need it filled all the way to the line on the dipstick, a little less will probably cure it..

Take a look at these early and late model backing plates. The earlier one has been Dremeled elongating the vents like the newer ones. They must of changed the design for a reason.

Late in the riding season last year I got some oil pretty constantly and all of a sudden after no oil previously. I have only ridden a couple of hundred and the weather has been cool. I think I will try this if it starts doing it again.

My bike is an '08 and has the old style, but I have no way of knowing how old the backing plate was when it was installed.

I have not tried to run a half a quart low and I really don't want to.

(I got these photos from someone on the site last year but I don't remember who otherwise I'd give credit.)
