Default Cams, cams, cams, I have a headache

I intended to stay with my SE 255 cams for my 103 build, they come with the stage 2 kit 103 kit. They fit my riding style, but alas everybody and their brother seems to recommend against them.

So:
There are the wood 555s, I don't think this is the right cam for me after reading up on them. They come on just a little too late.

The Wood TW6-6 it's possibility but doesn't seem to make the power of some others.

The guy doing my heads likes the SE204s for my riding style- question: These seem to be a TC88-95-103 carbed bike cam?

He also likes the SE 211 and actually thinks this will be the best fit for my build.

A few here like the Andrews 48 - don't know much about this cam.

Anyhow my riding style is mostly one up touring with the bike loaded moderately. I occasionally like hotdogging around but the vast majority of the time I ride between 2500 and 3000 RPMs. If I'm running the twisties I run between 3000 and 4000 RPM. When touring I do ride in the mountains a lot so I need to maintain low end torque.

The build is:

Heads with ACRs, 4 angle cut on the valves, heads mild porting to increase flow.
103 kit with 10:1 CR, can easily be bumped to 10.2:1.
FM jackpot mufflers, SE air cleaner with K&N filter.

I look at this and still think that the SE 255 is not a bad pick for my riding style, that being said I solicit input from the forum.

Thanks
F

Im with you on this. I really like the way the 255 pulls low. I honestly dont feel any drop in power in upper RPM and really like the lower end power. I am affraid if I start messing with things the bike wont be as ridable in 6th gear but so badly want to bump the motor up. I really like to be in 6th and be able to roll on the throttle and actually accelerate. All of my previous builds have been with S&S parts and have never been able to find a cam that I really like??? I also know that the 255 wont work will with higher CR so its a crap shoot. I will be very interested in seeing what you pick. Good luck

I rode with the 255s and switched to the Andrews 54H....there is no comparison. The 54H's were much better IMHO. They seemed to hit just as quick and the power band seemed to be much wider. Good luck with your selection.

Well.... I think the Andrews 48H would be very similar to the 255's except maybe carry out the performance a bit further. I'm still waiting to see a sheet with them installed in a 103" build. My style of riding is close to yours and I have the 54H in my bike. I really like them but they are also close in specs to the 555 and you may have ruled them out. Maybe a Woods TW-7H ? Call Bobby Woods and chat with him. He'll give you good input. Another option might be the Cycle Rama 575....

I think with the acr's in your build take care of the issues alot of these guys bitch about with the 103's and using the 255's save the cash and go with the 255's.That was always the issue was the releases.I had the stage II in a 09 ultra would start hard when hot but ran well.Change them later if your not happy. I traded for a Limited I decided to try the 254's and mine had acr's from the factory just tryin somethin different.

Check out Tmans performance new 555t (torquester). I have been hearing nothing but good things about this cam. Yeah, I know, more choices.

Good luck in your build.

run the 255's, there right in your wheel house. you don't care about max power at 5500 or on the rev limiter. you will be happy with the 255's

I dont have any experience with the SE 255's but the fueling 525 cams have good low and mid range pull i would recommend them
