the mileage is a huge factor; however someone looking for a clean frame only will be willing to part with some $$$ for a custom build. Sell it yourself -- make the price very tempting it will sell.

I've put another 10,000 miles on the bike since I posted this. I am going to keep the bike.

I replaced the rear wheel bearings when I did the last tire. When it comes time for the front, it will get new bearings and new brake discs.

When it comes time for the engine overhaul, I think I am going to put a S & S T-111 in it and keep the old one. I can get the T-111 for around $6,100.00 out the door.

After breaking the mainshaft and replacing the gear set with an ebay unit, the transmission has basically 22,000 miles on it. So it is good to go.

I could do some cosmetic work and have basically a new bike for less than $10K. That makes more sense right now that spending over double that for a new one.

It's a 2002 which is good. It's got over 100K on it which is not so good. If I was looking for a bike, all things being equal I'd be a buyer for this bike at 5-6K. You say you do your own maintenance, so I'm going to bet the bike's in good shape and you've documented what it took to keep it that way. If it was otherwise, I probably wouldn't be a buyer at all.

Keep the bike. You will not get what it is worth to you. The 100k miles are a factor that a buyer won't forget.

In AZ the "dealers" consider a bike with over 75000 miles as throw away. Their offer would be around $ 4000, then wholesale it for $5000, and the wholesaler would try to get $6500. Ask me how I know.

Unfortunately there are a ton of used Harleys for sale with very little miles on them. This makes it very difficult to get a decent price for one with over 100,000 miles on it.
I would guess that if you were looking for a used bike, you would also pass up ones that had very high miles on them.
The same thing happens if you try and sell a pristine, diesel pusher, motorhome, with close to a 100,000 miles, even though mileage is not suppose to be a factor on a diesel.
I would do as you did and keep it.
Tom
