Your favorite LOUD pipe for '10 Street Glide?

I made the classic newbie mistake of going cheap when I bought my SG last year and just threw on some slip-ons. Now I want to open it up quite a bit with more aggressive pipes and air cleaner; probably a tune while I'm at it. Any quick suggestions on the best bang for my buck?

Try some CFR's.

V&H 2-1 Pro Pipe. About $600 list price. They're out there for less.

vance and hines dresser duals to get rid of the cat, bub m-23 non EPA mufflers, SE air cleaner that looks like the one on the SE 110's. harley tuner or power commander this set up should set you back a little over a grand with installation but you will like the increase power, decreased heat and much more aggressive sound. sell your takeoffs on ebay to lower your all in costs
my $.02

Get the Vance & Hines Pro-Pipe Chrome, great performance !........you can buy mine if you want, I could see getting a quieter performance system.

My wife's 2010 SG has a V&H Pro Pipe Chrome, SE a/c, and the dealer Stage 1 flash - and runs GREAT. It's LOUD when she gets on it.

Did you go with a 2-1-2? You said slip ons.
I just put a Bub 7 slip on, onto my stock 2-1 with the cat still in the head pipe.
It is quite a bit louder than the stock pipe, and a lot lower toned.

I swapped out the factory exhause on my 2011 RG with V&H Dresser Duals and Twin Slash Rounds. The set up is medium loud on acceleration but come down to a very noticeable (but tolerable) sound tone at cruising speeds. To me they are perfect. You should check out some You Tube clips of the various exhausts people have installed. I spend a month doing that before narrowing it down to two choices.

JCleary 06-08-2011 11:50 PM

Bah! All these pipes mentioned all have their benefits, but none of them sound as good as the one.... The only....

THUNDERHEADER

There is no substitute.

Agreed. Unique, and bad to the bone!

I get compliments all the time on the sound of the dressers with the twin slash rounds.

For me they are perfect, tolerable at cruise but really bark when your on the throttle.

Thunderheader or the Bassani Road Rage!

frankiefire702 06-09-2011 09:05 AM

Forget mufflers all together. V&h long shots all the way. Im running them with big city thunder monster baffles.

alkrisma 06-09-2011 09:16 AM

the FM 4 1/2" pro tour sound real nice

STLBagger 06-09-2011 09:24 AM

I absolutely love the performance and sound of my 2-1 thunderheaders. I don't think many other pipes have the tone or the sound of these pipes. I wouldn't suspect you would be dissappointed with these pipes. If you do go with Thunderheaders make sure you get the heat shields with them or wrap them. Alot of heat come off them and the pipe itself will discolor over time

Road rage series 1 or 2?

Lots of Harleys are loud as hell. But most pipes sound like chit.

I don't care where you are, what you are doing, you can always tell a Thunderheader by its unique sound. It's like no other pipe. Bassy, snappy, and ROAR when you want them to! Once you have one you'll understand.

Anyone heard a road rage ll in person?

One more vote for the 2 into 1 Thunderheader!!!

Primm907 06-09-2011 12:32 PM

Wow... Just had a chance to jump back on and check this over lunch today, and I really appreciate all the quick responses. I'll do some more research based upon all of the suggestions, but I'd be lying if I said the Thunderheader isn't probably tops on my list right now. Did you guys with Thunderheaders end up doing a new air cleaner and tune at the same time? If so, any recommendations there? Saw some stuff on an autotune module from ThunderMax that sounded interesting.

axel black 06-09-2011 01:01 PM

CFR, Carrey Fass Racing, that gets it done for me. But maybe I like the attention that they get. It works.

I run an 09 stock headpipe with the thunderheader slipons (thundercones), airstrike rc components air caleaner, and thundermax. The bike all around runs and sounds awesome! Type in viper817 on YouTube and I have some clips of the setup and also just the slipons with cat still in.

Scionic Wraith 06-09-2011 01:58 PM

The Thunderheader 2 into 1 sounds like the winner. I do love the dual exhaust look though, so my question is, do you think (or does anyone have and can respond) that the Thunderheader True Dual system has the same sound and performance as the 2 into 1?

Personally I don't like the sound of Thunderheader duals. They do work pretty well according to my dyno tuner, as they do have a little crossover in them. But the signature music only comes from the 2-1...

toybreaker 06-09-2011 08:21 PM

My dad loves the performance of his Thunderheader and we both dig the sound. I agree the 2-1 is the ticket. I too like the symmetry of duels and I see TH offers the 2-1 with a falsee for the left side....considering that...hmmm

1931jamesw 06-09-2011 08:32 PM

I've got the T-header with a ghostpipe. 2-1 performance, dual looks.

cfabrizio 06-09-2011 08:55 PM

v&h tru dual header, carriage works 4" tornado slips ons. unique deep sound and comes alive when the throttle is rolled.

I have the 2-1-2 slip ons and my dad has the 2-1 and they sound identical to both of us. And we have swapped bikes to see. He claims mine is slightly louder, I think its cuz he is old. Lol

North Star 06-09-2011 09:55 PM

Everyone with the Thunderheaders failed to mention the chrome has a reputation for being poor quality. Also, I guess looks are a personal thing, but I'm not a fan of the "soup can stuck on the end of the muffler" look.

toybreaker 06-11-2011 12:26 PM

Hey North, that is a fact as well. I dont know how prevalent their issues are around chrome but my dad went through 3 sets before he got one that was right. 1st set the chrome spidered after a couple runs, 2nd set, one of the soup cans fell off a few hundred miles out, the 3rd set, no issues. this was also 8ish years ago, been great since then.

ga4boats 06-11-2011 01:00 PM

Sorry to cast a different vote, but I would suggest the D&D Fat Cat Boss 2 into 1 system. That is what I have on my 2010 RK.

flipster007 06-11-2011 02:51 PM

I am really surprised no-one has mentioned Rineharts. The trueduals sound great when on the throttle and quite enough to hear the radio while cruising.

Coach1 06-11-2011 03:32 PM

Please no offense....IMO only. On a touring bike the 2-1 systems look odd to me, like a one breasted woman. Having a 2-1 with a fake pipe, weird. 2-1's go well many other bikes, just not baggers. It does save money, can make sound & performance. I'm sticking with the true duels and semi-mellow mufflers. I also don't plan on racing.

Hydroboy35th 06-11-2011 03:33 PM

I'm really surprised no one mentioned the 2-1 from sikpipes!

+1 ....I've got Rinehart True Duals on mine and they sound great. Just as described above...loud when you twist it...reasonable at cruising speeds. They are the perfect "bagger" duals.

harwood1980 07-13-2011 08:08 AM

For you guys with the Thunderheader on your bagger, can you still hear the radio just fine on the expressway, or are the pipes just a bit too loud?

Just rode 1,400 miles in two days last week, and could hear the radio just fine and didn't need ear plugs.
