Default Winter Project: Fenders & Bag extensions

I guess it's not really a winter project because I'm done, and it's not winter yet. A couple (or five) weeks ago I decided to do something custom with my fenders and bags. As with everything I do, the primary focus was on a tight budget. I would like to have gotten extended bags instead of the CVO extensions but I was able to score an unopened HD Kit (part number 90999-09) for under $200 on eBay. I also scored a fiberglass rear fender extension and Klockwerks "Wrapper" front fender on eBay for $150 and $125 respectively. Including paint, misc supplies, and my own labor I'm only into this job for about $600.

It took some time to 'glass in the fender extension and get the bag extensions to fit well. For the cost involved, I'm reasonably happy with it. I'm still gong to repaint the tank and fairing so the bike is all blue before springtime.

Let me know what you think.

Before and after:

did you caulk/seam seal the bag extensions to the bags? I have used them and seen several but never seen them where the seam looked filled like yours ? explain ??

I did a lot of research before I decided to go with extensions. I do not like extensions that just look tacked on like you are referring to. I found a product called Plast-Aid. Google it. Pretty neat stuff. It actually makes plastic and bonds itself to other plastic molecularly.

As most people know you can not use bondo or even fiberglass to fill ABS. It will crack and fall off. This stuff makes itself a part of the plastic. I used it to glue and fill the seams of the extensions before primer and paint.

I had my bags hanging from the ceiling in my garage after the clear coats of this project and the right bag broke from the hanger and fell 6 ft to the concrete floor (My Bad!!!). It put a 6 inch crack in the extension that I just installed. I used this stuff to repair the crack, sanded smooth, and repainted that bag. It sucked that i had to do the work twice, but the bag is good as new.

Thanks for the comments!

Looks awesome man! Im definatley thinkin about doing the extentions on my Luxury Blue and Silver RK Police. But Im thinkin of painting the extensions silver to continue the two tone. They look way better with the seam filled in for sure! If you have any pictures during the installation Id love to see them. OH and that hugger front fender looks reallly nice as well.

Well, they're not perfect. But neither were the hockey pucks and these look a lot better.

Your bike is looking great.

I struggled with trying to make the police bags look better, finally gave in
and just replaced them with civilian bags.
