How Far In a Day?
#21
300 is a nice easy day on the back roads. If we need to get somewhere on the slab, 500 is not bad. We've done some 800 mile days, and a few 1,000 mile days, but by that point it's not much fun anymore.
If we need to cover some ground we've found that getting an early start and stopping every hour or so for short breaks, and at least one long break for lunch is much easier than trying to cover 150 miles between every stop.
Edited to add - as others have said, weather can make a big difference. 500 miles ain't bad in nice weather, but can get real ugly if it's 100 degrees, or 35 degrees. strong crosswinds can take a lot out of you too.

For me the daily mileage depends on the trip. Am I haulin' *** because I gotta get someplace or back in a certain timeframe? Is it a leisurely jaunt somewhere?
When touring I stop for fuel at around 200 mile intervals. I feel good doing 600 in a day, 700+ if the window is tighter or it's a lot of interstate.
Gonna do a Bun Burner (1,500 clicks in 36 hours) in June - and later that week head out across the country.

I usually look at the map and decide how far is far enough. My motel stops or the towns that I want to stop in, sometime I will ride to the outskirts of a town or city to avoid traffic in the morning when I am leaving. I like to stop at various locations and take memory photos of my trips. I like to be off the road when it gets dark and i like to get into a town so i can find a place for the night and for dinner. I map all of it out on my Zumo GPS and all works well.
Ride safe and decide for yourself.

I ride 99% of the time by myself,1000mi days are the norm for me that's if the trip is that far or farther, don't do back roads if I can help it,I'll see the sites when I get where I'm going, stop every 150 or so miles,do a lot of riding at night when it's 90 or 100* outside, better on me and the Bike !!

Why try to set a limit on your ride , if you are out riding , then ride! Stop if you want and when you want , have done that stoping around 3 or 4 then sit around the motel room getting bored and wish we had done a few ore hours , just ride what you feel like and enjoy , we stop and take a break maybe eat then decide if we want to quit for the night or go a little more , don't rush to get a motel when you stop , my 2 cents
