Default Inspection sticker location

I have mine in the saddlebag. The last time I went to get it inspected, the inspector suggested cutting the inspection plate with tins snips and keeping it in the bag. Sounded good to me and looks cleaner too.

I use a black one I bought at my local Honda dealer. To me it doesn't show up as hidious as those plain metal ones:

I guess I never thought to see if my license plate light is blocked by that plate. I'll check on my next walk-around.

I took off the one that mounts over and blocks the license plate light and modded it: basically cut and ground it to mount to the right of the license plate using the top and lower right license plate mounting bolts. This makes it more visible which reminds me of a funny story:

Got pulled over on the morning commute for doing 80 in a 60 and when the cop asked me when the last time I got a ticket was, I said "about 30 years", which was true. he checked and gave me a warning. Never looked at my expired inspection sticker, which was about a year expired too...

I took the mount off that it is affixed to and threw it in the bag. When it expires I will not have one at all. I have gone years without them on my sportbikes, haven't had a problem, YET. (knock on wood)

FYI. Just don't get stopped for something else. That's how I got ticketed for not having one. I rolled through a stop in the middle of nowhere and DPS got me for that plus the inspection. $250 fine for no sticker. Fortunately the JP dismissed it for court costs because I went and got one on the same day. It was cool with the DPS that the sticker was in my bag just not that it was a year expired.

Here's one I haven't seen yet.

I mounted mine between the fender and the saddle bag.

I trimmed the original cheapo plate, bent it and drilled holes.

I believe Texas says it has to be visible from the rear.

Personally, I wouldn't mount it on the side or stick it in my saddlebag.

Just gives them an excuse to pull you over.

BTW, the local HD shop won't pass a bike if the insp. tag blocks the license plate light.
