Thinking about trading in my bike for a used one. Do these numbers work out?

That's a pretty good deal. You should take it (unless you can't cough up the diff)
5K for a 16 yr old bike on trade? They'll only give me $8400 for my 2000 (bastards!)
And it's a good price on the SE Rd/Glide. (I love those!!)
And that's true about the tax deal. You're only taxed on the diff. ++++++
Any time ya don't have ta give those IRS bastards as much it's a good thing.

Without seeing pictures of your bike or the Screaming Eagle Roadie, I
would say that is a REALLY great deal.
Your bikes does have low mileage, but at the same time more then at the new one you are looking at to buy.
Lastly, That Screaming Eagle Road Glide is a true Bad a$$ Bike. Limited build, built with better parts, lower mileage, etc, etc. Truly a collector's bikes.
I would say go for it while that scoot is still around.

Dealer is probably into the 01 SE for about 7-8K and want to make $2500-3K on it.
He wants to take your EGC for 5K so he can sell for $7500-8K.
Tell him to sharpen his pencil a bit and tighten up the margins so you can get a deal done. Keep in mind if he is running a properly operated biz he has overhead and has to warranty these things so this is not pure profit for him. If he has a good reputation and he can do a little better then go for it. BTW if you are not a wrench turner, have someone you trust evaluate the EGC before you plunk down your money. I have never seen any used M/C that didnt need at least some minor issues addressed. Have them make any repairs before paying.

Retail is $11,690 for the SE Road Glide http://www.kbb.com/motorcycle/retail...-glide/237866/
Dealer wants to give you $5000 and will sell you the RG for $10500.
You do the math.... he's not giving you $5000 for your bike.... he's giving you $1100. Or did you word it wrong and he's giving you $500 trade in, and actually selling you the SE for the $5500 difference.
If this is the case, then it's a good deal.

Sounds like a good deal to me, when dealing with less than 10 grand on a Harley there is not much room to go anywhere with the price. He will probably just Wholesale your 96' with that many miles. Probably has a buyer lined up already. Did he make any phone calls when you were dealing with him? If you want the Road Glide, Get it and don't worry about 500 bucks. Someone will ****** that SE up soon.
