1 more thing, I think the instructions have you mount the hinges to the lid first, I did the opposite and it helped.

Instructions say to do base first. Works great to rest lid on hinge when attaching.

Well the 1st ride we did after I found it (only a short 20 miles) it got worse. It now
is about 4" long vertical. When I took off the lid I noticed they did not enlarge the
holes for the screws. The holes have screw threads in them and I wonder if that
helped start the crack in the first place. I wonder if the threads caused undue stress
on the lower tour pack from vibration to cause the crack. I am taking the whole
tour pak off today and have an idea to repair it. Going to put a big plate on inside
with two bolts drilled thru lower tour pak on either side of crack to hold it in place.
Then drill new holes thru plate for hinge. It will greatly enhance the lower hinge
support. Does anyone have their original instructions from putting on the Premium
Hinges ? I would like to know "IF" they were suppose to enlarge those holes on the
lower tour pak.
Rob .....
If the dealer installed it I would go right back there asap and try your best to have them replace the lower unit at their cost.

If they don't replace it, whoever fixes it must drill a small hole at the end of the crack or otherwise the crack will keep growing.. If you do this make sure you are at the end of the crack as hairline indications can be hard to see and you have to be at the end of the crack for this to work.

Those thread screws in the plastic are the identifier to the problem as the installer obviously screwed the fastener into a hole that was too small, thereby expanding the plastic and inducing the crack.
I would go back there and spew all over them for a replacement...

I my local dealer install mine at Minute Man Harley Davidson in Dartmouth Ma. for $80.00. It came out fabulous & well worth the coin + no stress of installation! They rock!

UPDATE - I checked the PDF on the installation and it said to drill a 3/16"
hole which they did not. So having that info I called the owner of the
dealership and told him what I found. He said no problem and to bring
it in when I have a chance and they will replace it NO CHARGE.
They have always been great to us so I was not surprised by his answer.
BTW ... Dealership is American HD in Leominster, MA

Doesn't get any better than that.... A good dealer/customer relationship is rewarding to both parties. Thanks for letting us know.
