2012 Street Glide - Transmission Oil Question
 

Hello everyone,

I changed the transmission oil on my 2012 Street Glide. I added the recommended 32oz, rode it a few dozen miles and checked the oil (cold). The oil barely registers on the dip stick. Should I add more oil? Should I check it right after riding (hot)?

The bike was on the jiffy stand and the dip stick was resting on the threads (not screwed in).

Why would you not screw the dipstick all the way in, then unscrew it and read the level??

Service manual says to check trans oil level with the bike on the jiffy stand and dipstick resting on the threads (do not screw in). OP, make sure the bike is hot and then check it. If it needs a little more just add some and then recheck. Sounds like you were doing it right.

The manual states to check the transmission oil level with the bike on the jiffy stand and the cap resting on the threads, not screwed in.


The engine oil level is to be checked with the cap screwed in.

Because...he read the owners manual & is checking level correctly...

OP - yes...re-check warm & add to full mark.

Copied directly from service manual:

"Wipe off filler plug/dipstick. Place in filler
hole and remove. (Dipstick should rest on lip of filler. Do
not screw in.) Lubricant level should be between the full
and low marks on the plug/dipstick when removed."

What oil you using. Reason I ask is the redline w shockproof sticks to the gears like glue and takes some time to get an accurate reading. I add the recomended amount and walk away. Periodically I will check it after it sits overnight or longer.
