2009 FLHTCU: 50k miles yep all mine

at 5k miles started running Red Line Oil

Tranny gears perfect , tranny roller bearings perfect

Outer "5th Gear / Front Sprocket Bearing" wasted

I'm thinking Redline is to thick for the outside bearing - trying Syn 3 after I break her in...... running the belt looser as well....

I was lucky... but the darn Compensator is wasted as well, went with stock

The rain sure makes it easy to let her sit

ill pull mine apart and see. maybe we can find a trend. isnt R&D fun?????

I hear the 5th gear is going out on quite a few 2009 - 2010 as soon as 30k miles, there's a roller bearing attached to the gear sooooo don't know my 5th gear looked sweeet

 

I think the bearing and not the oil is the issue; my 5th gear bearing failed at 39K. I always ran SYN3. My dealer advised me that he has seen a handful of bikes with this issue and the miles ranged from about 35K to 70K.

 

yeah, ive heard that too. im hoping the tranny lasts one more year and then next winter its going out to be undercut when i pull the crank

 

Ive Heard of people running ATF in them, then I knew a guy where I use to work that used a mixture of aircraft turbine engine oil and aeroshell 7 grease.....neither one had issues. But I think its just a bearing mfr issue...
