The Hayden puts significant pressure on the primary chain, but you want the chain pretty taught. (I've yet to see a HD spec for primary chain tension...is there one?)
The design improvement available with the Hayden revolves around the shock absorptive action of the two nested springs. Unlike the stock tensioner that just keeps on getting tighter and tighter at every opportunity, the Hayden is as tight as it's going to get when you install it. After that, it works to keep a constant tension on the chain, not an ever increasing tension.
So for owners not satisfied with the one-way street the stock tensioner provides, the Hayden seems to be a good solution.
I haven't put any miles on mine yet, but when I do I will report back.

Phatts certainly has a good price and free shipping on orders over $99.
But there has been some changes incorporated by Hayden in the last few months. If I didn't order directly from Hayden, I would ask whomever I ordered it from a few questions about the springs and whether or not it incorporates the new milled base (versus the previous, but perfectly functional, welded base). You can see what the new springs look like in my photos on the first page of this thread. The small one nests inside the larger spring.
Phatt's is a great vendor and may have perfectly new inventory with the latest that Hayden has to offer, but you deserve to have the latest state of the art in that product for what you are paying...so ask questions. It may be worth the few extra bucks to buy it directly from Hayden to ensure you get the latest design. Links provided below for your convenience:

Yep, that sounds like that just might be the answer we wanted to hear. Surely Hayden isn't still shipping the older versions after telling us there is improved springs and plates available. I think I'll hold off and see what they send to you. (if you report back here about it) I'm in no hurry..... That will be an easy mod with no real down time. (What, 2 beers and an hour?)
