Can Harley deny a warranty due to the brand of fluids you use?!?!

I took my bike in for some work, it had a vibration and a starting issue. To make a long story short. They had my bike on the dyno and heard some noise coming from the transmission. So they pulled it apart and it was trashed. The problem is not with the dealer but with harley. They take a picture of the problem and send it to harley if its bad enough they send someone to look at it to see what happened. The dealer said if they feel it was because I didn't use "harley" oil than they can deny the claim. This is crazy!!!! Does anyone have a copy of the fine print on the extended warranty?

They can't deny because of brand. They can deny because of the fluid specs. They would have to prove that the failure was caused by your choice of oil.

Look up Magnuson-Moss act. What your dealer is telling you is b/s.

Fine print? Check the law. Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act.I am not a lawyer. I believe it does not matter what oils you use, as long as they meet manufacturer's specifications.

I trust this dealer they are just going off of what has happened in the past. They are going to do what they can to get it covered. Im going into the dealer tomorrow to take a look at it. If its not covered it won't get fixed for now:icon_frown: I haven't worked in almost a year because of cancer treatments. I'm do to go back to work in march. I was planning on taking a trip on the bike to Florida before I go back to work.

Out of curiosity, what were you running for fluid in the trans?

Dew Me 01-24-2013 10:39 PM

Bullsh!t Grade of fluid yes. Brand no. Not unless they want to pay for said fluids.

I run Royal Purple 75W-90. I've run most of the oils out but this makes it shift smoother. Harley brand oil sucks!

The bike has just over 64,000mi

As mentioned....mention Magnusson Moss Act, and they'll stop the bullshit.....as soon as they see you know the deal, they'll pony up.

Royal Purple 75w/90 is a top shelf oil....that is NOT the problem sir.

Harley oil isn't "shit"....it's just big twin tranny's need thicker oil than that. The Harley 20/50 both conventional and Syn3 works just fine in primaries and engines.....But 20/50 is just too thin for a Big Twin Tranny, IMHO.

I personally like FULL Synthetic. If you have an Amsoil dealer around you, I'd suggest that.

Real happy with Amsoil since I switched to them 6 months ago!

I DO like Redline Shockproof Heavy Differential oil in the Big Twin Transmissions....although, it looks like Pepto Bismol and stinks like a old whore when you drain it out, but the tranny shifts like butter under it, and it's a 100% TRUE Synthetic (doesn't break down under heat like conventional oil....VERY nice when you don't have an oil cooler).

By the way Syn3 is a Synthetic BLEND....it's not 100%......Mobil 1 is, so is Amsoil and Redline, and a few others.
