I remember in the days of being around big rigs, its kind of the same as bikes, who can make more power. I do remember trucks that had more gears had less hp! If anyone is running decent torque especially 100+ you dont need more gears.

Looked in my service manual and yes 6th gear is 1:1 my bad Still 7 gears no overdrive? 2700.00 My understanding is that the Direct Drive (1:1) transmissions have about 99% power transfer to the rear where an Overdrive transmission only has about a 92% transfer of power to the rear. I really don't fully understand what that all equates to but it is the reason stock bikes have the Direct Drive and not an OD. |

No worries. It took me quite a bit of digging to understand what was going on with transmissions for HD's. Jims, Baker and HD (Screaming Eagle) have 6 speed Overdrive transmissions. Baker is the only one I know of with a 7 speed.
