Like so many of the questions on a forum, this is one of those questions that will be answered differently by every reader.
You can tell an awful lot about a bikes condition and care by looking at it. If it is clean as a hounds tooth and shines like a dime in a billy goats rump, it has probably had very good care. Things like wear and tear on the seat and the condition of the rubber brake pedal also say a lot as do things like brake pads and tires. Last of all is the test ride. Ride before you buy for new or used.

I know two people with 96 inch ultras with over 100k on the clock with no major failures. Want longevity out of a bike? don't open the engine and do the service on time. If you want a 103 or 110 buy one. I know ppl that installed big bore kits and had no problems as well as several who did. You didn't say if you're at the dealer or private seller. IF you're financing, remember, HD will finance a private sale. In FL, the difference between a dealer and private seller for the same bike is around 3 grand. I just got done getting off my 95 and onto an 07. After patiently searching and making offers, I found one with 7100 (yes, hundred) miles on it and the guy took my offer. I intend to keep this one for a VERY long time and i ride a lot so for me, 20,000 miles was the upper limit. There are a boatload of low mileage ultras out there. ( I know, ask me what time it is and I tell you how to build a watch)
