Advice on cams
 

My friend has a brand new set of Screaming Eagle 255 cams he said he would give me for free. I have a bone stock 2013 Street Glide. He said the bike would wake up a little more with the 255's...He also suggested changing the oil pump for a high output oil pump. Im thinking the Sinister Industries Up Yours Exhaust, Screaming Eagle Heavy Breather, tuned with the DynoJet PowerVision with the 255's and the oil pump...Opinions on the outcome of the combination?

You don't need a different oil pump, the late model oil pumps are just fine. There are a lot better cams than the 255s, but free is good. If you're getting them for free your buddy must have something else instead of the 255s? Some people love them, some people hate them, they need a good tuner to make them work well. Since you're asking for opinions, I'd spend the $250 for some Andrews cams & be done with it, the 48s or 57s are great bolt-in cams, it's your choice. Do a search for SE 255 cams & you'll find a couple of days worth of reading.

Skip the oil pump unless yours is worn out.

If your cam budget has "free cams" as a requirement use the SE255's. They aren't a bad cam. The cams are very reliable and dealer friendly. But, if you have any budget at all, you can find almost anything else that will make more power.

You didn't mention how or where you ride, which could also determine what cam would work best for you.

The 255s are a good upgrade and will not affect yout warranty.
Save your money on the oil pump. Upgrade the cam bearings.

As stated 255's are ok, they are just a little more then stock, if you like to rev up to 5k rpm's then you won't like them, they fall off way before that. I put in SE 204's in mine and they pull hard all the way to 5k rpm's, I rarely do that but its nice when I do lol.

Nice thing about SE 255 is that they kick in right around 1800-2000 rpm so pretty useful for people who shift at lower rpms.

I'd reccomend the SE204 or S&S 510 cams they work great in stock engines with low compression, most cams need higher compression 10-10.5cr)

go find the SE race catalog and read about cams and look at the power curves on the dyno graphs, the 255's are strong from idle to 3500rpms then fall off kinda hard..

"School bus" cam. That says it all. Bearing upgrade yes, pump no.

oh, don't waste money on the oil pump the stock one is fine.

With the 255's be ready for the heat. It feels like I put the cat back on.
