Iron Butt: 48 States in 10 Days - Ride Report

9000 miles door-to-door was about $1000 in gas. (it's a bit expensive in some places) My average Hotel cost was about 50 bucks or so with 2 nights in $100 dollar places because it was the first place i found and i was beat.
Food was pretty cheap... I was eating cliff bars while riding. I ate breakfast at the hotels that had it, subway, pizza, and a burger here and there.
All in all, i think i cost me around $1700 for everything for 10 days.

Great read!!!! I felt like I was right there with you, however , I was glad to be sitting in my comfy office chair at the same time.
I too have the desire to try this, however, I'm new to the touring side with a recent purchase of an '09 ultra. I've yet to break 400 miles in a day but that's only because my destination gets in the way. My a$$ is sure happy Im there already though.
Again, great read and congrats.

Wow your f:::::nuts. I'm 65 and a year ago I took a 32 day 10,000 mile trip trip on my bike took my time and got to see the sights. This was my personal goal I understand why you took this trip, too much for me I'm to old to go that far that fast. Proud for you. I did ride from Daytona beach fl to Washington, D.C. For Memorial Day 804 miles and I did it in one day this year. But to do this kind of ridding for 10 days Again you nuts

StrokedNBored,
Now that you've done this, and had a fine time doing it, you may wish to explore the cyberworld of like minded motorcycle vagabonds. To that end you might wish to google "advrider". In particular, the ride reports section. Where you can read trip reports from people journeying everywhere on the planet on motorcycles. One gent for example is finishing up his cross country ride on the trans-Atlantic trail on his sidecar equipped harley bagger. A wrong bike for the ride if there ever was! Or read about Charlie, a Road King that has gone through South America, Africa, and other absurd locations. Or the kid who's been traveling for nearly three years now on his Vespa, covering the entire globe. I think he's down somewhere in Deep South America now.
