OMG They Spread that Crap Again!
Just because of a little sleet last night the idiots at the DOT spread Salt again on the roadways last night! AGGGGGHHHH! Im so pissed! The roads were clean from numerous heavy rains! I was just out for my 1st ride of the season this past Saturday! It was beautiful & it felt great to be in the saddle again! No decent rain now until next Tuesday! Really DOT? God you guys Suck! :icon_emm:

I know the feeling.
|
I share your pain in Central New York. Same issue here....
|
For some reason, they did NOT salt here in the Rochester, NY area..... And I'm happy although there were some black ice related accidents overnight.....
|
Very strange that the DOT cares more about Public Safety than your salt free rides. What are they thinking? Idiots!

between saturday and sunday we got 7'' of beautiful rain to cleanse our beat up winter street. woked up monday morning to a light dusting of the white stuff. and yup. salt trucks out........
|
Same here in New Hampshire. Enjoyed 900 miles of salt free roads for two weeks.
|
Same here. Salt whores!
And for the smart azz above, in my area they salted when it was around 30, with forecasted highs around 40..... So just doesn't make sense to spend the money on salt, trucks, labor, etc.... |
Another benefit of living in Seattle.

Hate to have to ask but what is the issue with salt? Having always been in AZ and Cali guess I am clueless about that. Does it just get all over the chrome?
|
HA!! Thats what you get for being Yankees lol

It turns to a powder on the road and gets all over everything. Not that big of a deal really. Just wash it off. Or you can whine about it like a little bitch. All part of riding where it snows. |
No salt her...they just dump sand everywhere

Wow, then I agree that just plain sucks.
|
Salt and sand were poured on the roads here this morning.
Will take 2 more drenching downpours to clean the mess off the roads. |

I hate salt as much as the next guy but I would bet the farm that you would sue the pants off the state, county or city that did not make the roads safe causing the loss of one of your loved one's.
|
I just ride mine (as long as it's dry). I'm too old and have too little riding time left to worry about salt. Ride and wash it - it'll be OK.

Funny thing here was the roads such as my neighborhood which is 20 MPH got a heavy dose of salt and the highways and roads 40 and up got nothing.

They put what on the huh?

Gotta agree that it plain sucks to see the salt trucks out when we get 2 inches of wet snow, all of which disappeared by noon. The stuff is poison to anything called metal and cannot be washed out of every nook and crannie. I've lived up here in Maine for about 30 years and NH before that. There's this little thing called common sense. Appears to be in short supply, though one would think that by April, driving in any amount of snow would be no issue at all. Most communities did not salt. No money, no need. Somehow, the MaineDOT must be flush with (our) cash and dumps loads of rock salt to get rid of snow they were plowing off the road with the front of the truck. Salt is used to assist melting in low temps - typical winter conditions where you cannot rely on mother nature to warm the surface of the road. Not the case today. Bad decision that affects many folks just looking for any chance to get on with spring and leave the long , cold winter behind. Ya, I'm pissed. It wasn't necessary and costs us all money we don't have to waste. Take a look under any car from New England and see if you think an extra week of salt makes sense. Painful.
|
Same here in Western MA. 2" of snow and they dumped heavy salt. Had it been 2 inches in the middle of Winter, they would of done nothing. All about budgets, overtime and the all mighty dollar.
|
The problem with salt is it gets everywhere and is very hard to get rid of. And where I live they will spread a salt sand mix which makes the roads really slippery at times as well. Nice try as well with trying to blame the state or whoever due to am accident because they didn't have every inch of roadway pristine for someone to drive on.
I feel ya, we got the same crap here, salted most places for an inch of snow that was gone by 9am..... |
Star brite Salt Off
I use it on the boat, it'll get rid of salt on your bike too |

We will have so much rain this week, and cold temps, so no riding, and any salt used will wash off.

However, I will not ride my bike until the end of May to ensure nearly 100% of salt has been washed off the roads everywhere in NY State. Thorey |

Wow, I've been living in southern CA all of my life and I forget what the rest of the nation experiences in winter. Come this Sunday a few of my good friends are planning a ride to several of the local ridings haunts. First heading to a really cool sleepy town called Julian which its known for their pies, for breakfast, then its to Hells Kitchen and ultimately to Cooks Corner. (Google them ) Its easily a 300 mile ride. I feel for you guys dealing with Old Man Winter. The salt is what really strikes me. When a day is clear for you guys to take your steeds out for some saddle time you have the salt to contend with. I once sold a 1989 Toyota 4X4 in really great condition. I placed it in Craigslist and within 10 minutes a guys from Maine called me saying he wanted it and was willing to pay me an additional 500.00 if I pulled it from C.L. This dude flew out and here and drove it home. WTF, for a Toyota. After all was completed he had mentioned that the rust back east was a killer on metal.
