Putting the oil mist back in the intake is an EPA thing.

When I put the DK breather bolts on, I had to have an update to the PCV tune from Fuel Moto - so there is some difference. DK claims a power increase due to hot, oily air no longer entering the intake. To me, it makes sense not to put that stuff into an intake that is should function better with filtered ambient air only.

While a good breather system create little misting, high rpm will overwhelm the breathers and make a mess. I vented mine to ground.

When people say "venting to the ground/atmosphere", where exactly are they venting to?

Does the oil/mist have the potential to spray elsewhere on your bike, possible the rear tire?

Thanks

Mine vents to the ground and has a little filter attached on the end of the vent hose. This terminates just above and off to the side of the oil tank drain plug. `Hope this helps.

Pushing blow-by back into the air cleaner is counter productive to performance. What comes out of the breathers is primarily exhaust and oil.

It is also hot. Engines perform better with cool dry air and gas...not hot oily air and gas.

Additionally the exhaust gas has a lower oxygen content, displacing oxygen on each combustion stroke. Another performance robber.

Oil will build up carbon deposits on the pistons, leading to pinging/tuning problems down the road.

It's just a bad idea...the only upside is you make the EPA happy

This is the reason a lot of people choose to vent to the atmosphere.

You can see the external breather options that we have at this LINK.

Here is a picture of one possible setup:

My opinion...with the addition of ethanol to our fuel a mist of oil helps with upper cylinder head lube that the gas today does not provide, now that being said if you have a lot of oil then it is counterproductive.check you oil level most times that is from over filling from a oil change.

Question??? If you have misting oil with the factory system where does this misting go with the DK Customs Breather Bolts? Looking at the them, it would seem that once the small foam pieces get oil soaked they would just spray the oil on the side of the engine and rider. It would seem to me the only true way to eliminate spraying the side of the bike and rider would be to route the breather to the lowest part of the bike with something like DK's Premium Breather Kit.

The breather bolts pictured above are for the people that do not have issues with the oil blow by. If you do have an excess oil problem, for whatever reason, then it would benefit you better to use one of the hose and filter setups that we offer.

When you vent the crankcase to a small filter that hangs below the air cleaner, does the small filter fill up and drip (just like the air cleaner)?
Thanks

There are a few differences. With the traditional hose and filter, (two short hoses attached to a filter element above or below the air filter) the filter provided in that kit is not oiled and it is cleanable.

Meaning it will take longer to get saturated than your air cleaner filter, then when it does, you can just wash it out with soapy water.

With the discrete breather systems, (the ones with longer hoses and a filter that goes on the bottom towards the end of the bike),The amount of oil is the same, although with the longer tube, more will collect on the walls of the tube and a bit less in the filter.

Also, the filter will not be as hot, so the oil will be more viscous and less likely to drip on the one with the longer tube.

That said, unless you have an abnormal amount of oil carry-over, you will get no drips from the Traditional Hose and Filter set-up, where the filter is directly below the air cleaner.

The reason why some choose one of the two Discrete systems over the Traditional Hose & Filter is simply based on looks.
