Rear shocks from 2018 Glide

I'm hoping someone can explain the adjustment on these shocks to me. I'm not a fan of the stock air shocks, but why is only one of these adjustable? Do they connect somehow? Does it matter?

As I read in another thread, this type of shock design/setup is fairly common and has been used for years by other manufacturers. One side controls the compression and the other side controls the return damping. The two sides can dominate different aspects of the suspension function with no swaying for the rider, due to the frame design. (Others better versed in this subject might weigh in.)
