Default Oil Change help

What is the best way to get the oil pan under under the Tri Glide. There is not enough room to work under there. Thinking about backing it up on ramps. Any other suggestions??

I put my ramps in front of the rear tires and drive up forward. Reverse won't take my trike up the ramps. Then I use a cat jack and set the front tire on a block. Hope that helps.

I took a 2x6 and cut it into 3 lengths about 3 feet long and 3 lengths about a foot long. Nailed the short pieces on top of the long pieces and drive up on those. It only raises about 3 inches, but it is enough to get a small oil pan under it.

I do the same thing, but I have a third ramp for the front wheel. That way I can just back off all three at one time without using a jack again.
For the jack I just have a motorcycle jack from Harbor Freight. I also have a scissor screw jack that will lift 1100#. But it isn't fast enough.

You guys need to buy the low profile oil drain pan from H-D
They also have special funnel that is designed to drain the oil filter into with a hose that transfers the small amount of oil down to the drain pan.
This pan has plugs threaded plugs and once it is full you can use the handy carry handle to take it to your local parts store and donate your dirty oil and then return home with a "ready-to-use-again" empty drain pan.

FWIW, DK Products sells an oil filter relocation kit that mounts the filter near the LH side passenger floorboard. In addition to making the filter easier to change, it helps cool the oil as the filter is farther away from the heat of the engine.

I have used three ramps to raise my FreeWheeler high enough for oil changes. I also made the change-over to DK oil filter relocation package while the machine sat in the garage over the winter. When the mileage is high enough, the ramps will be used again for tranny oil changes.

Yes, the Oil Filter Relocation Kit will make things much easier in the future and as mentioned, will help cool your oil as well.

Here's a pic of this on Kevin's(the K in "DK") Triglide, relocated under the passenger floorboard-

Here's a LINK to this kit.

Get a oil drain pan from Walmart. Slides right under. 10 bucks. Problem solved.
