I have a 2017 Freewheeler with stock seat and want to add a rider backrest. Service department and my local dealer says adding a back rest requires replacing the complete seat. The current seat has a slot behind rider position that looks a lot like the the one on my Street Glide and has a back rest installed.

That's why the slot is there.calling BS on the dealer and service hacks.

 

I found the rider backrest in about 30 seconds in the H-D catalog. Many different styles for the driver.

 

Yeah i had a backrest on my Roadglide and was told it would not fit my '12 Triglide so ordered the 'correct' one. Well it looked exsctly like the one I had. So tried mounting my original and it worked perfectly and the 'correct' one was returned. Sometimes ignorance is bliss. I should have just tried mine, lol.
