Harley-Davidson Inc. announced one of its largest motorcycle recalls in years: all model year 2017 and 2018 Touring, Trike and CVO Touring models and certain 2017 Softail models
The Milwaukee motorcycle company will voluntarily recall approximately 238,300 bikes worldwide in the 2017 and 2018 model years due to a hydraulic clutch assembly issue. The announcement was made in conjunction with the company's third quarter earnings report, which showed sales fell 13.3 percent domestically, but grew 2.6 percent internationally.
In a Securities and Exchange Commission filing Tuesday morning, H-D estimated that the recall would cost the company about $35 million, which the company will assume in the fourth quarter of 2018. The recall applies to all model year 2017 and 2018 Touring, Trike and CVO Touring models and certain 2017 Softail models.
"Recalls are frustrating for us and for all our stakeholders," said John Olin, Harley-Davidson's chief financial officer. "However, the safety of our riders is our highest priority. We, along with our dealers, are committed to addressing this issue and continuing to provide customers with the quality experience and service they expect."

The hydraulic clutch system with secondary clutch actuator part numbers 37200131and 37200131A on the subject motorcycles may exhibit an internal leak of fluid past the secondary clutch actuator piston/seal. If this leak continues for an extended period, the clutch master cylinder reservoir could lose enough fluid toexpose the hydraulic clutch circuit to air, which may result in the inability togenerate enough lift to disengage the clutch.
Remedy
Owners of affected motorcycles will be asked to arrange service with an authorized Harley-Davidson dealer, who will confirm that the motorcycle is covered by this recall. If covered, the dealer will install a new secondary actuator piston assembly from the recall kit, P/N 91500093. This service will beprovided at no charge to the customer.
We strongly urge you to take your motorcycle to your dealer to have the appropriate service performed as soon as possible. Should you choose to ride your motorcycle prior to this service, we urge you to be aware of this condition. Some product campaigns may have expired and you may have to pay for the service. Please see your local Harley-Davidson dealer for further details

Harley needs this part for current 2019 production and then have extra inventory for their part supplier to meet the demand for replacement parts for the recall. My local dealer said that each dealer will get a small amount each week for months to come.
Just think of the owners that don't ride much, dont visit these forums or check the Harley website... and wont know anything until its to late??? Sure hope Harley mails each registered user a notice!!!
