2016 or 2017 TG?

Thinking of trading my Freewheeler in for a TG. The dealership will give me top $ for my FW if I take the 2016 making the 2016 about 5K cheaper than the 2017. Any thought?

I'd go 16, 1st couple years of a new design isn't always good.

For that kind of savings, I'd go with the 16. If you buy the 17, you will become one of HD's Beta testers; they always let their customers find the problems with new engines

My thoughts are a little different from the two previous posters;

If you go with the 16 you still have the Twin Cam engine with all it's baggage. I have had three TC's since 2010 and have not been a happy camper. I have thrown money in it to get more power (about where the 17 is) and still have that annoying engine noise. You will be a engine generation behind if that matters.

I will (have ordered a new 17 TG) live with the bugs that is needed to work out; too early to tell at this time if any or how significant they will be.
WARRANTY...

Just my 2 cents...

Get the 17 and extended warranty I am considering getting one. Tired of the noise and heat. Don't get me wrong I'm keeping Old Shiney but would like a New one also, may be a new color Black ride safely Fred

If the 17 is a winner . Then you will be about 5 k in the hole on the 16 when it come trade in time. I would hold off till mid summer. See how it goes . Only bad thing about forms is that you hear more about negative then positive. I had a 14 and was very happy with the limited. .But I wanted a trike and traded down 1 yr . There are some things I miss on the 14. As for myself unless there is a big big difference. I'm sticking with the 13 TG. Its paid for .

Buy the 17.... A-year from now you''ll pull up next to a 16, And look over at the 16 and say ' Nice Trike... But old Technology!

I recently purchased a 2016 TG over the 2017. I could not see the advantage over the 16 and the added 4 grand to buy.
I trade in a 2010 ultra limited with the 103. So i know about the heat issue. Never had a problem with the heat. They all are hot standing still. I prefer not to be a ginny pig at 40k price tag.
Just my own preference for the 2016.

I bought the '14 and yeah, maybe I was a guinea pig, but I don't regret it. So I'd say go for the '17 if that's what you want. Worse comes to worst, you end up with your ride in the shop for a day or two getting some new bugs fixed under warranty.

Having said that, I have no urge to even look at the '17s, I'm happy with mine just the way it is. Although I've discussed about the heat here, and I like tinkering with ideas, it's never really bothered either me or my wife enough to actually do much about it. Jeez, it's not that bad. Move the fairing or lowers vents a little, that usually takes care of it.

And noise? What noise? I like the sound. Isn't it supposed to sound like this? The vibration, too. The only noise that would bother me would be a louder exhaust if I did anything about the heat. Nope, I like it just fine the way it is, thank you.

The first of its kind new generation in an trike that has improved itself every year almost to me is no brainer unless money is a problem. $5000 makes a lot of improvements to a 16 and it doesn't cost that much if you can do it yourself.
