Check out this stuff.... https://www.xpel.com. I had this put on my trike three years ago. Front fender, fuel tank, rear fenders and the panels where my wife's feet hit all of the time. In Pa Penndot uses tar and stone chips to "repair" roads and I've inadvertently traveled on many. This film has saved all parts. Not cheap but the Harley film only covers a small section while this covers entire fender. You can have everything covered if you've go the money

The xpel film can be purchased on EBay or other outlets if you want to do it yourself.
There are different thickness of the film also. But you might have to search for those. The film is much more installer friendly than the 3M film as it will stretch around curves better.and do multiple curves better.

When I had my fenders wrapped I had the installer double the front of the fender about 6-8" up. I was told by a body shop to do that to help with the dings.

On my '11 and '14 I used 3M film paint protection. On the '19 I have ceramic coating on all the paint, and film on the high exposure areas of the fenders, side panels and body between the fenders and side panels.

The biggest drawback to the bra's is that regardless of how cautious you are, dirt, bugs and other debris will find it's way down into and along the edges, then you have the scuffing of the paint occurring. I ran a tank bra on different ultra's and the tri-glide also. The hazy scuff would always appear and I was always removing and reinstalling for wash jobs.

I was wondering about this issue if happened. That would definitely defeat the purpose of having it

While weighing the difference here, the film won't protect against larger debris. The covers will.
If I wanted the covers, I would put the film under. Cover the entire area the covers touch. Saying that, I have a tank cover and keep the area waxed and have never had a rub so far.
